Why Pep Guardiola is winning titles?

Man City just won their 3rd straight Carabao Cup title (7th overall) after winning 2-1 against Aston Villa .At the beginning of the season they still won the Community Shield ,although some would argue these are less prestigious Cups they show that he takes all trophies seriously.Pep was a creative and gifted midfielder who usually played in a play making role as a defensive midfielder. He started his coaching in the lower division team and coached the team B for Barcelona.In a shock move ,the management believed in him and appointed him as Barcelona Head Coach.Johan Cruyff had this to say about him ,"Guardiola wants to make football better." In his first season as manager ,Guardiola achieved major success by guiding Barcelona to a treble ,winning LA Liga ,the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League. He became the youngest man to coach a Champions League winning team.Under his guidance ,Tiki-Taka system(a style of play in football)reached new extremes.Many managers view a football pitch as a 18 zone system but Pep's style revolves on a 20 zone system. Its majorly based on positional play which tries to get numerical advantages high up the pitch between the lines in order to: 1.Dominate the ball in dangerous positions. 2.Manipulate the opposition defence. 3.Create high quality chances. Pep said this once,"Its not the possession or one touch passing that matters but the intention behind it(Disorganising the opposition). How do you disorganize them?With fast ,tight ,focused passing. Through this style players know where they need to be and when thus they can select the most dangerous pass.They also know when to overload different sections of the pitch.Pep's most identified spot is the midfielder who can pick out strikers runs(predominantly De Bruyne).In this style there should never be more than 3 players in horizontal zones and no more than 2 players in vertical zones.Staggering the lines gives you more passing options. Defensively the fullbacks pull high up enabling them to still aid in attacking .Wingers make runs behind the opposition's back line.For example, when De Bruyne shifts into the wide spaces Aguero adjusts his position to take advantage of the space.Keeping their players close in these zones allow quick passing to manipulate the opposition. By being so close they will also be able to counter-press easily . These 20 zone system is simple but effective.There are many techniques he uses like gegen pressing and even rotating his players but this was the one I wanted to clearly point out today.
